St. Joseph’s Integrated Health Centre, Macklin

ABOUT

In January of 1922, by invitation from Rev. Francis Palm, parish priest, the Franciscan Sisters of St. Elizabeth of Humboldt came to Macklin to establish a hospital responding to the needs of a vibrant and growing railway community. By May of the same year a temporary, 15 bed, home hospital was up and running.

Over the next few years the hospital admissions continued to grow and a new wing was added in 1928 bringing bed capacity up to 45. A nursing school opened bringing students to fill the growing need for nurses. Today the new facility was officially opened in 1996 with 22 long-term care beds, two observation beds, a respite bed, palliative care unit, emergency X-ray and medical lab services.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2014 The Sisters of St. Elizabeth transferred its ownership, sponsorship and governance of St. Joseph’s Integrated Health Center to The Catholic Health Ministry of Saskatchewan.
